The prominent Socialist Party/ISR contingent on the London demo and the massive rally at Trafalgar Square
As a UN human rights monitor put it: "Israel is committing a shocking series of atrocities by using modern weaponry against a defenceless population - attacking a population that has been enduring a severe blockade for many months."
Brighton members of the Socialist Party took part in both the massive demonstration in London and the rally held in Brighton on Saturday 3 January to oppose the slaughter taking place in Gaza. In Brighton hundreds of workers, students, pensioners, the young and the old marched through the city centre to demand an end to the killing and oppression.
In London the march took two hours to file into Trafalgar Square and is one of the biggest since the 2003 anti-war demonstrations. Organisers said: "We estimate there are between 60,000 to 75,000 people at today's rally".
More than 1.5 million people live in the 'open air prison camp' that is Gaza. For the last sixteen months the blockade of the Israeli regime has intensified the nightmare - a majority of the population are unemployed and suffering from malnutrition. Now the 'prison guards' are bombing the prison - resulting in the deaths of many hundreds of Palestinians, including children.

This coming Saturday, 10 January, a mass demonstration will again take place in London to escalate the pressure on the world's ruling class and to give both Palestinians and Israeli workers, campaigners and youth global solidarity and confidence in the struggle to end the oppression from their self-serving rulers. Join the struggle to end the war!
